Biography
Dr. Cheng-Han Lee received his MD-PhD degree from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2004 and completed his Anatomic Pathology residency training (UBC) in 2009. During his residency training, his interest in cancer genetics led him to pursue a cancer research fellowship in Stanford University. His work demonstrated the importance of tumor-stroma interaction in sarcoma. After completion of the residency program, Dr. Lee continued his study on cancer genetics and biology as a post-doctoral fellow at Jonathan Fletcher’s laboratory in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he studied the genetic basis and biology of high-grade uterine sarcoma. His work on uterine sarcoma led to the recognition of a new disease entity that was adopted in the 2014 WHO classification system for tumors of the female reproductive system. The current research focus of his laboratory is on the genetics and biology of uterine cancer and sarcoma, and he has applied various next generation sequencing methods to gain novel insights into these tumors. Dr. Lee currently has 99 peer-reviewed publications and a number of book chapters. He was a consultant surgical pathologist at Royal Alexandra Hospital (Edmonton) and an Associate Professor at University of Alberta prior to joining the Pathology department at BCCA and Vancouver General Hospital. His clinical and diagnostic interests which also overlap with his research interest include gynecologic pathology and bone/soft tissue pathology.
